And another new gallery

June 9th, 2010

I took a trip to Montreal this past weekend to attend a new furry con called What the Fur, and I had lots of fun. It was kind of small, but that’s expected for a new convention. I’ve added a new gallery for pictures taken at the con.

That’s it for cons until possibly the end of July where I might be attending Otakon. I’m not 100% sure as I’m  interested in getting a new pet (specifically an American Toad or Pacman Frog). Since they’d be young, they’d need to be fed every day with special nutrients to make sure they grow and don’t get sick, and I can’t get someone else to gut-load crickets or sprinkle them with calcium.

In the meantime, I’m going to be changing things around here a bit. People might have noticed I changed my hair a bit, and I’d like to fix up the site to reflect that change.

New Galleries!

May 31st, 2010

I’ve added a few new galleries to the Gallery area of my site. There’s a section devoted to my pets, Daxter and Kain, and a new gallery in the Convention Photos for Anime North 2010. I don’t have many pictures for that one right now, but I’ll be adding more as they start to come in. I can’t say I saw much of the con because I spent most of the time outside.

Lost

May 24th, 2010

It’s no secret that I like the TV show Lost, and last night was the final episode of the series. While it’s disappointing that the show is now over, the fact that the show got a proper ending is rather comforting. Many great shows have ended with no resolutions or were just plain canceled and couldn’t be given an ending (Law and Order for example, unless it gets picked up by another network).

I’d been waiting for the day ever since they announced a couple years back that Lost would be ending, that they wanted to limit how many episodes there were so it didn’t run too long. Yesterday was that day, and I was not disappointed at all. While some mythos behind the island remained unanswered, and will no doubt be questioned for the next several years, the characters in the story all received a happy ending. As the show’s writers said themselves, some people will be unhappy with the ending, others will enjoy it.

Lost joins the (rare) few stories that manage to move me and make me care for the characters, and make me feel genuine emotion. Many times throughout the finale I was in tears, and if you’re not choked up and crying at the very end scene, you have no soul, or are a rather bitter person (or just haven’t followed Lost and tuned in to see what all the hype was about). For 6 seasons we followed the lives of these characters, it’s hard not to be attached to them.

Ghost Whisperer is a good example of the opposite. When the show started, and up until the 4th season, I actually cared about the characters, but then the writers and producers got a bit.. stupid, and tanked the show. As a result, the public spoke, and now the show has been canceled. The thing that perhaps bugged me the most about that show is how villains were never really dealt with. They would be beaten once, then run off, and never mentioned again.

The other thing I admire about Lost is how they managed to create a story-line so long, and keep it going. While there might have been mistakes here and there, the continuity was perfect. The sign of a good writer is the ability to create such a large world, with so many characters, and weave it all together into an even large story. This is something I greatly admire in writers, and am trying to do with Heart of a Dragon. It’s very hard, having to remember every minute detail, but the results are worth it, as seen in the video game series Legacy of Kain and Jak and Daxter (both written by the same author), and now Lost.

So next season, I’m sad there’s no Lost to watch, but there are still some very well-written TV shows out there. If you haven’t already, give Fringe a try. Not content with creating one large world for events to take place in, the shows writers have created 2 entire worlds that the show takes place in. Stargate Universe is another great show to try out. I’d also suggest The Tudors, but sadly it’s ending in a few weeks.

Con Schedule

April 25th, 2010

Well, it’s almost that time again, time to hit the road and check out conventions! This year I’ll be going to a couple more than I did the previous years.

May- Anime North

June- What the Fur

August- Otakuthon

November- Naru 2 U

I’m not 100% sure about these cons, as this year a lot of cons happen in succession and I might not be able to afford to go to them: Anthrocon, Otakon, and Midwest FurFest.

Speaking of art, I’ve deleted the Vampire X gallery in the Gallery section and uploaded the pictures that were in it to the Artwork section. I’ve also added a couple of new pictures to the Heart of a Dragon section, so make sure you check them out if you’re interested! The Heart of a Dragon store also has a new picture, the one of Persephone I talked about in the last post, and I should be adding a new picture of Minerva this week.

Store Update Coming Soon!

April 16th, 2010

I’m going to be adding a few new pictures to sell on the Heart of a Dragon store soon, so there will be more to chose from than just 1 picture. I’m re-drawing all the covers of the chapters (and creating new ones for the ones that didn’t have any), and this current chapter (Chapter 8- Uprising) will be up any day now. I’ve re-drawn it to reflect Persephone’s latest look (since my style changes over time).

Removed Vampire X

April 13th, 2010

I finally gave up and just removed Vampire X from the Drunk Duck site. I wrote the story years and years ago, and while I updated it over time, it just doesn’t work for me. I can’t enjoy it like I enjoy writing and drawing Heart of a Dragon, and I just can’t get it to work all these years after coming up with it. Maybe I’ll give it a try in the future, but as for now, I have to lay it to rest.

Heart of a Dragon Store open!

April 2nd, 2010

Thanks to the great folks at Drunk Duck, all the comics they host have been given stores to sell their artwork! You can buy posters and mousepads, tote bags or mugs, all with your favorite artwork on them.  The Heart of a Dragon store can be found here, and I’ve put a link to it on the main page of my site. I’ve only got one picture up so far, the picture I did for the 3rd anniversary of Heart of a Dragon, but I’ll be adding a lot more up in the future.

3 years of Heart of a Dragon!

March 14th, 2010

Last Friday was the 3rd anniversary of Heart of a Dragon! It was on that day 3 years ago when I finally decided to start up a comic and uploaded the first page for everyone to see and read. Now we’re on Chapter 8, and over 500 pages! I really want to thank everyone who reads the comic, I’m glad there’s people that enjoy the story and characters I’ve created. There’s still plenty more to tell in the upcoming years.

Gallery Update for February 19

February 19th, 2010

I’ve added some artwork to my gallery, and there’s also a new picture of Flame up in the Princess Flame gallery.

I love/hate Disney

February 18th, 2010

When it comes to Disney, I’m a bit bi-polar. I love them for their classic animated movies (and their most recent 2D animated film), but I hate them for how they act and treat some of their properties.

Here, I couldn’t find any Princess and the Frog merchandise. No soundtrack, no books, no dolls or plushes, yet in the US, they were everywhere. All I managed to find was a $5 bookmark and a few coloring books. All the rest of my collection came from ebay or a friend in the US. My animation cel, which I got off ebay, was given out free to a single zip code in Nevada. The people that received it proceeded to stick them all on ebay and make money off something Disney gave them for free. Now sure, everyone wants to make money, that doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is Disney only made those cels available to a single zip code in the entire US. I can only say “thank goodness” that I bought mine before a majority of the fans found out about them, as they’re going for 4-5 times what I paid now.

I saw 1 TV ad leading up to the release of the movie. There was no fast food promotions.

For a large company like Disney, why did they feel the need to treat The Princess and the Frog in such a manner? Why didn’t it deserve the attention that most of their movies get (like those annoying live action movies, where the commercials are played every commercial break)? Will the DVD release be better, or will all their focus be placed on Alice and Wonderland?
